Professor Geoffrey Layer OBE DL
Geoff is a Professor of Lifelong Learning and has been the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wolverhampton since August 2011.
Geoff has led and advised on a number of national higher education initiatives in England. Between 2000 and 2006 he was the Director of Action on Access, an agency established to advise HEFCE on its Widening Participation Strategy. He is a member of Universities UK’s Research Policy Network, Student Policy Network and Teacher Education Advisory Group. He also Chair of the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills (BIS) Disabled Students Sector Leadership Group.
Geoff is a member of the Black Country Local Economic Partnership, the Black Country Chamber of Commerce, the Equality Challenge Unit, the Higher Education Academy, the QAA Advisory Committee on Degree Awarding Powers and a trustee of the Open College Network West Midlands and the Universities Association for Lifelong Learning.
Geoff was awarded the OBE in 2003 for his services to Higher Education.
