Viv Astling OBE DL
Viv Astling is a Sculptor who carves stone and is Honorary Secretary to the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists. He regularly exhibits and has completed 3 public art commissions including one at the National Memorial Arboretum. He plants trees with Birmingham Trees for Life (over 50,000 up to 2016) and is involved in the creation of a new Glass Museum in Wordsley.
Qualifying as a solicitor, he served as Chief Executive of Walsall Council and then Dudley Council for 17 years. He was heavily involved in achieving joint working amongst the Black Country Authorities and is an Honorary Graduate of Wolverhampton University. Following his long interest in urban forestry, he was appointed for 2 terms as Chair of the National Forest Company and oversaw the planting of over 5 million trees.
Other past non-executive roles have included Chair of Birmingham Airport Consultative Committee, Chair of Dudley College Governing Body and Vice Chair and a Trustee of mac Birmingham.
