Clerk to the West Midlands Lieutenancy: Martin Tunstall JP

Martin was appointed as Clerk to the West Midlands Lieutenancy in December 2012 after almost four years with the Staffordshire Lieutenancy, he has now worked with three Lord-Lieutenants. He previously served as a police officer for 31 years in Staffordshire and then as a member of police support staff for 5 years. During his police service he was the police co-ordinator of security and policing of Royal visits in the County of Staffordshire for 13 years. He has been awarded Chief Constable’s Commendations on 6 occasions and received a Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in 1995 and the Golden Jubilee Police Medal in 2002.


Martin is determined to increase the number of Birthday and New Year’s Honours awarded to recipients in the West Midlands County and he wants the West Midlands Lieutenancy to encourage a greater number of nominations of Queen’s Awards for Voluntary Service and Queen’s Award for Enterprise.

Deputy Clerk to the West Midlands Lieutenancy: Denise Lewis

Denise was appointed in May 2013.  She began her career at Coventry City Council and trained to be a Health and Safety Officer before being promoted into a Business Manager role. After 26 years working in local government she decided to move to the private sector.  She worked for the Engineering Employers Federation at Woodland Grange Training Centre as a Sales & Administration Manager for nearly 5 years. Denise has further experience of working in the charitable sector first as a Business Support Manager for the National Childminding Association, then as the Office Manager at the British Beekeepers' Association's headquarters.  She has been responsible for organising and promoting numerous high profile events.
