Sakhawat has built an international reputation for developing original work on nanotechnology, synthesis and commercialisation of materials at nano-scale. He has worked as a University Professor/Senior Scientific Officer/Senior Industrial researcher and as an academic based at universities in England, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Australia and India within the Faculties of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering/Petrochemical Industries and Govt of Saudi Arabia. As a Principal Investigator he has been awarded many research grants; completed more than 30 research projects to completion, supervised to completion more than 30 PhD/MSc/ MEng and numerous BEng/BSc undergraduate student projects. He has authored more than 100 scientific publications – including book chapters, journal papers, patents and confidential reports. He is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow and Assessor of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining.
He has chaired International Conferences and is on the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Computational Materials Science & Surface Engineering, and served as Editor in Chief – International Journal of Nanomanufacturing and, as a Guest Editor, edited 2 Special Editions of the Journal of Experimental Nanoscience.
